Mexico Kulaktik

Colectivo’s history with Kulaktik dates back to 1998 when we were introduced to the cooperative through its Milwaukee sister parish. Located in the highlands of Chiapas, the group now boasts more than 250 members who grow coffee at elevations ranging from 1,350 to 1,800 meters.

After years of dependence on outside organizations, Kulaktik – meaning “vine” in the Mayan language Tzeltal – now carries its own export license and continues to focus on quality improvements. It is suspected that English Breakfast may have gotten its name in America, not England. The blend is so named because of the rich blend's complement to a typical, hearty English-style breakfast.

Genmaicha

Genmaicha (Loose Leaf) is known as “brown rice tea,” as it is a blend of green tea and roasted brown rice.

Davidson’s Genmaicha (Loose Leaf) carries a nutty, light flavor with a sweet finish, compliments of the roasted brown rice.

Davidson’s Genmaicha is sourced from Shaoxing County, in the Zhengjiang Province of China. This area is known for its rolling hills and network of rivers. The tea gardens are located just east of the Kuaiji Mountain. The landscape in these tea gardens is at an incline, allowing for natural irrigation and plenty of sun exposure.

Traditionally, genmaicha was created to reduce the price of tea and prolong short supplies by adding rice as a filler, and was commonly consumed by the poor. In this way, genmaicha also became known as the “people’s tea.”

Ingredients: Organic green tea and organic toasted rice.

Gunpowder Green

Gunpowder Green (Loose Leaf) is a form of Chinese green tea in which the tea leaf is rolled into a small, round pellet. In particular, the tea leaves are withered, steamed, rolled and then dried.

Davidson’s Gunpowder Green (Loose Leaf) brews mellow and layered, with a deep, smoky flavor profile.

Davidson’s Gunpowder is sourced from Wuyuan County, in the Jiangxi Province of China. This area is known as part of the “Green Tea Golden Triangle,” as the climate and altitude are prime for green tea growth and production. The small farmers in this area live by the tea in a small, remote village, and believe in building harmony between man and nature.

This ancient green tea got its English name based off of its strong resemblance to balls of gunpowder.

Davidson’s sources its organic jasmine green tea from a small tea farm in Wuyuan, which resides in the Jiangxi Province of China. Davidson's co-owner, Kunall Patel, takes the time to visit our Chinese small farmers often to understand their cultivation practices. Here's an image of a fully grown tea plant with fresh sprouts and the landscape beyond.

The Jiangxi Province is a part of the geographic "golden triangle of green tea" in China. This area accounts for at least a third of the world's green tea cultivation. There, the green tea is baked to create a strong nut-like flavor. To transform a green tea base into a jasmine blend, the tea leaves must then be sent to Hengxian County, also known as the "land of jasmine." Hengxian's jasmine cultivation dates back over four hundred years. Farmers in this area have generations of experience and skill in infusing the jasmine aroma with pure green tea. The green tea's neutral, nutty flavor makes it easier to absorb the jasmine blossom scent.

Lapsang Souchong is a Chinese black tea that creates a campfire aroma and brews coppery in the cup. This tea has a bold smoky flavor with a slight hint of pine. The flavoring qualities of wood allow it to create a campfire like aroma. In comparison to its counterparts, Keemun and Russian Caravan, Lapsang is the smokiest blend of all.

Ingredients: Organic ceremonial-grade green tea powder.

Brewing:
- Heat fresh filtered water just short of the boiling point.
- Add 1 teaspoon of Davidson's Organic Ceremonial Matcha Powder to an 8 oz. bowl.
- Pour the heated water into the bowl.
- Whisk the tea using a tea whisk for approximately 1 - 2 minutes, until the Matcha Powder foams.

Pu-erh Black

Pu-erh Black has a rich, fragrant flavor profile with a mellow finish. Pu-erh Black is actually Shou Pu-erh, which differentiates itself from Sheng Pu-erh by its fermentation process. Shou translates to "cooking" in Chinese, and refers to the process of expediting fermentation with added heat and moisture. In this way, Shou Pu-erh is categorized as a black tea, whereas Sheng Pu-erh is a green because of its raw, uncooked nature.

Sencha

Sencha (Loose Leaf) is a traditional, pure green tea, known for its needle-like shape.

Davidson’s Sencha (Loose Leaf) brews light with the sweet yet astringent flavor that is expected of the traditional green tea.

Davidson’s Sencha is sourced from Shaoxing County, in the Zhengjiang Province of China.

Traditionally, Sencha is commonly grown in and sourced from Japan. In Japanese, the word “Sencha” translates to “first tea,” meaning that the tea is identified by the fact that the green tea leaves are harvested in the first flush, which is thought to produce the best quality. Once picked, the leaves are then steamed, dried and rolled into their typical needle-like shape. Shaoxing County, where Davidson's Sencha is sourced from, is known for its rolling hills and network of rivers. The tea farms from which we get our teas are located just east of the Kuaiji Mountain. The landscape in this area is at an incline, allowing for natural irrigation and plenty of sun exposure, which is required for the growth of quality Sencha and differentiates the tea from Matcha, which is commonly grown in full shade.

South African Honeybush

South African Honeybush (Loose Leaf) is considered the "sister" to rooibos (red tea), and is similarly high in antioxidants.

Davidson's sources its organic rooibos from South Africa. During a recent trip to visit our rooibos farmer, Davidson's co-owner, Kunall Patel, had the opportunity to experience each phase in the rooibos production process. Here he is with a small bundle of fresh honeybush in hand.

White Peony (Loose Leaf) is a delicate, crisp white tea known for its neutral, nut-like character.

Davidson's White Peony (Loose Leaf) offers a smooth, chocolatey base with a fragrant, floral finish.

Davidson's sources its organic White Peony (Loose Leaf) tea from ZhengHe County in the Fujian Province of China. The tea farm is located high on the mountain and is covered by the surrounding forest in the area.

White Peony sourced from ZhengHe County has strictly been cultivated with the traditional practice of withering, as opposed to the modern practice of baking. In this way, the tea leaves are simply spread out to wither in the sun, if weather permits, for about two days. This natural process promotes light fermentation and the protection of leaf benefits, like antioxidants.
