Title: Mosaics
Artist: Heidi Howard
Details:
I ask, is it genius or madness that serves as the driving force behind an artist’s creations? As a working artist, I reduce images into mere fragments and then meticulously place them piece-by-piece onto my chosen picture plane. Agonizing over every chosen piece and its placement, as part of a whole, I lay and relay, arrange and rearrange over and over again. Driven by some inner force, I cannot leave any piece out of place. Each individual seemingly random piece of glass acts as if it were cut in a predetermined manner to fit together as part of the larger whole. Through the process of construction, my work demonstrates my individual needs to find order, to create unity, and, in the end, harmony with all the fragment pieces within my surroundings. In doing so, I have found that through acts of compulsive madness I am able to present radiant works of art that some may even call ingenious.
